You Make a Difference

YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Many Florida cities have outstanding Sister Cities programs, but who knows of the impact you make in Florida and the World.  Now is the time to document and share this information.  Florida has been invited to showcase at The Global Convention, Dec 9-10.
Do you have brochures?

Please continue using the Face Book page FLORIDA SISTER CITIES INTERNATIONAL and post progress. We need closer communications between other Florida/National cities with similar interest.

If you are not the individual responsible to provide this information to me, please add another contact name including e-mail or telephone number with your reply.

THE “LIGHT CHASERS” PLEIN AIR PAINTERS OF THE SUN COAST
& PHILLIPI ESTATE PARK Present ART IN THE PARK!
The Light Chasers: Plein Air Painters of the Sun Coast will be making an artful splash in February, 2015 at Phillippi Estate Park, located at 5500 S. Trail in Sarasota, FL. The Light Chasers have joined with Phillippi Estate Park to sell art and raise money for the restoration of the Keith Farmhouse.
Artists lived in the farmhouse for years and put on art shows on Sunday afternoons. It is just a fitting tradition that once again artists come forward to sell art, restore the farmhouse and enjoy Phillippi Estate Park as the perfect art venue for Sarasota. This event is a continuation of the long history of Arts in the Park at Phillipi Estate Park.
The Light Chasers 3rd Annual Paint Sarasota! Paint Out kicks off the celebration with a week-long “Plein Air Paint Out” from Feb. 22nd to March 1st, 2015. (Plein Air is the French term for: painting outside.) Renoir did it, Monet was a master at it, and Winslow Homer was even rescued from freezing Maine rivers whenever he and his easel slipped into the water while plein air painting in the snowy winter! The Light Chasers Sarasota Paint Out is the largest in Florida! Expect to see 75 to 100 artists from around the country at their easels, throughout Sarasota County!
A special “Light Chasers Quick Draw Painting Contest will be held at Phillippi Estate Park from 10:00 a.m. to Noon, on Wed. Feb. 25th coinciding with the weekly Farmhouse Farmers Market. Prizes will be awarded to the top painters by Master Artist, Bill Farnsworth. The public is invited to come, paint, watch and even buy “off the easel” right at the Farmer’s Market. Grab your paints, because ANYONE can paint in the 3rd Annual Paint Sarasota! Paint Out and the Quick Draw Painting Contest. Registration required.
The weekend events begin on Friday night with the extraordinary showing of our Sun Coast Master Artists. These nationally known artists will show and sell their beautiful paintings at the historic Edson Keith Mansion. The opening Gala takes place Friday, Feb 27th from 6-8 p.m., tickets $25.00. Refreshments, Kitt Moran and her Jazz Trio, and decorations in the tradition of the Mansion in its heyday will greet sponsors and special guests. The Master Artists Gala is our major fundraiser of the week. Sponsor and ticket information is available through Light Chasers President, Terry Mason, at: tnmason@gmail.com.
Saturday night the Light Chasers 4th Annual Show & the 3rd Annual Paint Sarasota! Paint Out will have a FREE Gala Opening for the public in the Edson Keith Mansion, on Sat. Feb. 28th from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Last year 1500 people attended this show to buy art and meet the artists! Paintings by the Master Artists will also be in the show. This Gala has become one of the best Art Shows in the County.
Sunday, March 1st, the public can view all Light Chasers Shows one last time from Noon to 5:00

Mission and History

To promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation — one individual, one community at a time.

Sister Cities International was created at President
Eisenhower’s 1956 White House conference on citizen diplomacy. Eisenhower envisioned an organization that could be the hub of peace and prosperity by creating bonds between people from different cities around the world. By forming these relationships, President Eisenhower reasoned that people of different cultures could celebrate and appreciate their differences and build partnerships that would lessen the chance of new conflicts.

Sister Cities International creates relationships based on cultural, educational, information and trade exchanges, creating lifelong friendships that provide prosperity and peace through person-to-person “citizen diplomacy.” Since then, Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and now President Barack Obama have served as the Honorary Chairman of Sister Cities International.

Since its inception, Sister Cities International has played a key role in renewing and strengthening important global relationships. Early partnerships included a trading relationship between Seattle, Washington and Tokyo, Japan, repairing post-WWII tensions by creating cultural and educational exchanges and, subsequently, lasting friendships. A 1974 study found that many early sister city relationships formed out of the post WWII aid programs to Western Europe. The relationships that endured, however, were based on cultural or educational reasons that developed lasting friendships. Sister Cities International improved diplomatic relationships at watershed moments over the past 50 years, including partnerships with China in the 1970s.

In the new millennium, Sister Cities International continues to expand its reach to new and emerging regions of the world. Today, it dedicates a special focus on areas with significant opportunities for cultural and educational exchanges, economic partnerships, and humanitarian assistance.
