Thanks For The Donations and Work

We had a very successful Giving Partner effort.  Our Telethon was successful and was covered by SNN TV. Our final accounting is not yet complete but it should be over $13,000.

Thanks to everyone who donated.  And special thanks to Finance Co-Chairman Bill Wallace and Kenney DeCamp, and Gloria Grenier, Carolyn Bloomer, David Harralson, and Craig Hullinger who worked the phones at the Telethon, and to Bill Mallet who set up the equipment. And thanks to the Partners of the Giving Partnership who made this possible.

The Giving Partnership Sep 1 Noon to Sep 2 Noon

Sarasota Sister Cities will participate in the Giving Challenge, which is a one-day, 24-hour effort by Sarasota area non-profits to raise funds. The Patterson Foundation will match donations dollar for dollar with a minimum $25 donation up to $250 per person.

The 24-hour period starts Sept 1, 2015, at 12:00 noon and ends on Sept 2 at 12:00 noon. Gifts must be made by credit card through a web site during that period.

We are asking our membership for gifts. William Wallace recommends that each of our 18 board members consider a gift of $100 which, when matched, would result in $3,600 in new new funds; then if each of our remaining 80-plus members each contributed $25 (the minimum accepted), when matched, would result in an additional $4,000.

Further, if each of our board members will accept a challenge from President Beth Ruyle to solicit 10 of their friends for a minimum gift of $25, it could boost total giving to SCAS over $10,000, all given in that one day!  Beth has pledged to donate $1,000.

This is a one time event each year and SCAS is only eligible for this 100% match in 2015 because it is our first year to enter the Giving Challenge. Gloria Grenier noted that other organizations blast you with emails before the event. That is very important. We will email everyone with the details and may ask many to make individual contacts.

2015 Giving Challenge

The 2015 Giving Challenge is Tuesday, September 1 at noon through Wednesday, September 2 at noon. Please make your donations by credit or debit card during that time through the site below:

Very Important:  Only gifts made during that 24-hour period will be matched!

Openings on the Board of Directors

Currently, we have two and a half positions open on the Board of Directors.

The first is the Secretary.  The second is Vice President of Sports.  A shared position of Economic Development VP is also open.  The current ED VP will move to the position of Fund Raising VP in six months.

Likewise, the position of President will become open at the end of the program year - April 2016.

We are looking for interested members to fulfill these roles.  If you are interested in the President, then one of these positions would serve as a good background for you.  Otherwise we need people to fill these roles.

One of my goals is to involve the membership more in our activities.  So please, step up, fill these roles and be active with our activities during the coming year.

If you are interested please send an email to Werner Knoop, Chairman, Nominating Committee at wernerkn@comcast.net.

If you have not been to a presentation of our Speakers Bureau, please do so.  You will find the subject and the presenter well worth your time.  As members these presentations are free to you.  Dave Harrelson started with one presentation of Historic Sarasota and has now made four. If you feel you have expertise in an area.  Please sign up to make a presentation. Contact Ray Young at aloharay4@gmail.com.  Information on these presentations, as well as other activities Sister Cities is undertaking, is on the blog at sarasotasistercities.com.  This blog serves as our newsletter so check in from time to time.

Next, I would like to remind you of the Giving Partners challenge.  Our donations are matched up to $250 per credit card entry.  Information is on the blog and will be sent out by email regularly.  It is important that we take advantage of this match this year as it is a one time offer.   We are scaling our Gala down to a less expensive luncheon so it is very necessary that we earn funding from this source.  So we encourage you and your friends to participate.
