A Message From Our President - Marianna Janz-Wecke

Marianna Janz-Wecke

Marianna Janz-Wecke- President, Sarasota Sister Cities

I invite you to join Sister Cities Association Sarasota, an International Organization, founded 1963.

The mission of Sister Cities Association of Sarasota, Inc. (SCAS) is to foster international relationships between Sarasota, Florida, and cities in other countries that have similar interests by creating exchanges in areas of culture, education, tourism, business and government.

SCAS’s objective is to develop respect, understanding and cooperation through citizen diplomacy. To accomplish this mission we develop relationships with people in cities that have cultural, education, tourism and business environments similar to Sarasota’s.

Working outside the realm of government, but with its support, we encourage and facilitate cultural and education exchanges, business opportunities and increased tourism.“

Tel Mond Student’s Play Performed at Florida State Theaters

Each year Florida Studio Theatre hosts the Young Playwrights Festival honoring the winners of their Write-A-Play contest. On May 21, 2016 one young girl from Tel Mond, Israel and two young boys from Dunfermline, Scotland were presented with certificates and medals. A third Sister City winner from Vladimir, Russia was unable to travel to Sarasota for the Festival.

These winners were chosen from over 3,600 plays submitted from playwrights in Florida, New York, Kansas, Israel, Scotland and Russia. Naom Drori, a student at the Shelanu School in Tel Mond, won in the Under Six category (pieces written by those in kindergarten through sixth grade) for her moving play Living Together. She and her father Eitan Drori were guests of Sister Cities Association of Sarasota for five days. They visited many local attractions but the highlight for Naom was seeing her play performed at FST’s Keating Theatre by professional actors.

Winning is an outstanding accomplishment; Naom’s name can now be added to a long list of Israeli winners.
