Peter & Francesca Harris lived and work in Venice for seven years. Peter was a scientist and cardiologist who spent his professional career at the National Heart Institute in London, England. The couple began holidays in Longboat Key 1992 where the bought a condo at Seaplace. Peter continued to paint watercolors at the home on Gulf of Mexico Drive. Some of Peter’s art is still on display at the Ringling Library sharing a display case with John Ruskin who wrote the great masterpiece “The Stones of Venice.”
In his introduction to the “Bricks”

Peter wrote:
Scattered in parts of Venice is a group of brick and tile designs dating back to the 11th Century. It is suprising that here, in the most researched city in the world , such a treasure of medieval architecture could have been ignored. My watercolors are designed for accuracy but also to capture the beauty of what I was looking at.  I have used a lmited palette of earth colors to bring out the character of the brick. I offer my title, “The Bricks of Venice”, not as a parody of Ruskin’s great masterpiece, “The Stones of Venice”, but in homage.

“The Bricks of Venice” by Peter Harris is
a work of love to the city of Venice. It is an
engagingly written and illustrated description
of the decorative brick work that goes back to
the 11 Century which is still to be found in the
pavements, ornamental arches and towers of
this city renowned for the beauty of its setting,
its architecture and its artworks. The book
is illustrated with 66 beautiful watercolors
created by Peter Harris. The book is rare and
still in demand. In mid-January only one copy
was available on Amazon.com for $500.

RSVP, meal selection and $25 payment required by noon Wednesday, Jan 30 to meet requirements of the Sara Bay. Meal selections are Herb Crusted Chicken Breast with Roasted Red Pepper or Sautéed Snapper with White Wine Lemon Butter.
