One World Award Gala on Wednesday, March 28 2012

The Sarasota Sister Cities Association celebrates its second annual One World Award Gala on Wednesday, March 28, as our major fundraising event of the year. The $125 per person Gala will be at Michael’s on East in Sarasota. On We will honor one individual and one organization for their outstanding efforts in promoting international relations.  This will be at our One World Gala at Michael’s on East where we will recognize Nick Bollettieri as the individual honoree for fostered exceptional international relationships through our area for individuals, families and communities throughout the world; 
and ORT,
the largest Jewish educational organization in the world, for devotion to educating and elevating disadvantaged children across the globe with skills needed to lead productive lives.

We greatly appreciate those who have made the commitment to attend and those who have advised they are unable to come, but recognized that the One World Gala is our major fund raising event of the year by making meaningful donations to SSCA.  We hope that others of you and perhaps friends that you know have an interest in international relations will still consider attending or making donations to our program.  SSCA is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. All SSCA funds come from membership fees, fund raising events such as One World, grants and donations.  Contributions are appreciated and are deductible to the extent provided by law. 

In addition, you and your friends need to be aware of the fantastic live auction prizes that will be offered at the dinner.  The major prizes includes five star, romantic trips to three locations including a four day, four night luxury getaway to San Francisco/Napa Valley, with two nights at the Ritz Carlton San Francisco and two nights at Medowood Resort in Napa Valley, which includes airfare and accommodations for two;  a luxurious Floridays 3-bedroom condominium and a $500 gift card for Disney World for a three night weekend; and a day trip to Key West in a private Cessna 414 plane from Sarasota for you and three friends, including lunch for four at Conch Republic Seafood.

At the Hyatt Regency Library

Tuesday 5-7 pm – March 20, 2012

Sarasota’s premiere waterfront lounge is the location for our
March mingle. Enjoy a few cold beverages in the "hidden"
library located on the lobby level by Currents Bar. Look
for the SSCA sign. Our “library” space features extra-large
windows, comfortable seating and space to wander.

Currents Bar features an impressive beverage list, ranging from
signature cocktails to premium beers, wines and mixed
drinks. Normal happy hour is 4 to 6pm., but as a special for
our event the time for happy hour pricing in the library area
only will be 5-7pm. The specials include $5.00 Canvas Wines
and $4 Flatbreads - Short Rib; BBQ Chicken; Mediterranean,
or Chorizo-Blue Flatbreads.

Courtesy RSVP by March 17. This will allow the Hyatt to
ensure they have sufficient bar staff for our Meet & Greet

One World Award Gala


Honoring James Bollettieri and ORT

The Sarasota Sister Cities Association celebrates its second annual One World Award Gala on Wednesday, March 28, as our major fundraising event of the year. Honorary chairs for the 2012 are Robert and Diane Roskamp. Mr. Roskamp received the first One World Award last year for the worldwide research work of the Roskamp Institute in finding cures for Alzheimer’s Disease and other mental disorders. Co-chairs for this year’s event were Jane Thompson, owner of Thompson Resources, a consulting group specializing in commercial real estate asset management and Bill Wallace, who chaired the inaugural One World Award event in 2011.

Assisting were Nikki Taylor of Rock Solid Construction Group; author Jane Cirksena; Steven Klindt, of the Roskamp Institute; Morton “Woody” Wolverton, of Stifel Nicolas; and Kevin and Cheryl Ellerbrock — Kevin, a social media professional and Cheryl, an associate professor at the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee. Representing SSCA were President Tom Halbert;and Gayle Maxey, SSCA event coordinator.

The selection panel was chaired this year by Sarasota Mayor Suzanne Atwell and included Fulton Lewis III,broadcast news commentator and lecturer; Dr. Sarah Pappas, president of the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation; Steve Queior, president and CEO of the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce; and James Shirley, executive director, the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County. Sponsors include the Roskamp Foundation, Woody and Sue Wolverton, Floridays Resort in Orlando and Thompson Resources.

Celebrating its 49th anniversary in 2012, the Sarasota Sister Cities Association has more than 150 members, “citizen diplomats” who create personal face-to-face exchanges with citizens of our eight Sister Cities across the world in the arts, business, education, civic activities,sports and government.


“This celebration honors a remarkable Sarasota organization or individual who has enhanced world understanding and respect through extraordinary work or volunteer service,” said SSCA President, Tom Halbert. This year’s honors are shared by Nicholas James Bollettieri and ORT America for the Gulf Coast Region.

Bollettieri, founder of Bollettieri Tennis Academy (now IMG Academies), has fostered exceptional international relationships through our area for individuals, families and communities throughout the world.
