Three Sarasota Sister Cities have winning plays in the Florida Studio Theatre Young Playwright’s Festival.
From Dunfermline, Scotland – “The Haggis Hunt” by Matthew Walton and Kelly Fairbairn, both high school sophmores.
From Tel Mond, Israel – “Lost in Jerusalem” by Shai Levi, 7th Grade student.
From Vladimir, Russia – “Remember Me” by Tanya Dorohkova and Karina Ionova, both high school freshmen.
The Festival will be held on Saturday, May 12th at Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota, Florida. The winning plays will be presented at Florida Studio Theatre by professional actors. The playwrights and their guests are invited to attend a performance of their play and an award ceremony where they will receive a Certificate of Achievement and a medal. Playwrights in the Honorable Mention Category will receive a Certificate of Recognition and a Medal.
Winning is an outstanding accomplishment; these playwrights were chosen competitively from over 4,000 student entries.
A formal letter will be sent in care of the contacts from each city with specific information regarding the festival. Winning Playwrights, educators, and families are encouraged to attend the Festival and the Sister Cities Association will facilitate all travel and housing arrangements.
