GABRIELLA HAZAN:  MORE ON OUR NEW CYD/SISTER CITY BOARD MEMBER
Gabriella works in her parents’ school “Cooking with Giuliano Hazan” at Vila Giona near Verona, Italy.  She works with students to understand authentic Italian cuisine and acts as an interpreter of language and culture for students there.
She was also a team project leader of “Sister Cities United Youth,” a program that connects the youth of all of Sarasota’s Sister Cities so they can understand each other’s cultures.
As a Pine View student she has demonstrated fluency in Italian and French.  She captains the Public Forum Debate Team at school.  In 2015 she was president of United Synagogue Youth for Sarasota-Manatee and has been chosen in 2016 to represent Sarasota/Manatee as a Bob Malkin Young Ambassador on a trip to Israel.
Gabriella, sorry this info did not come in before the segment I wrote about you on the 1st.  Welcome to Sister Cities!

ISABELLE EIDET BECOMES DIRECTOR OF EVENTS
Isabelle was formerly Assistant City Director for Treviso, but resigned to accept the position of Director of Events.  She will help us streamline and improve our events management.
She planned events as the Chief of the Protocol Office for US Ambassadors at several of our Embassies overseas.  She was a board member of several NGO’s in six countries.  She has 30 years of experience in the field of event planning, promoting, and marketing events.
Welcome to your new position, Isabelle!

GABRIELLA HAZAN BECOMES NEW CYD REPRESENTATIVE ON THE SISTER CITY BOARD
Gabriella Hazan has become the new CYD representative on the Sister Cities Board.  (More bio on Gabriella in later issues)  She replaces Morgan Bortz who served last year.
Community Youth Development is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide the tools to empower youth as leaders in service to their community.  A CYD executive told your editor that she appreciates Sister Cities because we give our CYD student a place on the Board and let them take part in actual decision making.  CYD students grow as leaders from their work on our Board.
By the way………….Gabriella’s Longboat Key grandmother Marcella Hazan, who died in 2013, was one of America’s preeminent Italian cooks.  In fact, her recipe “Marcella Hazan’s Tomato Sauce,” appeared in last Sunday’s New York Times (Jan. 1, 2017).  Sam Sifton, NYT’s food editor, says that every time Marcella’s sauce recipe is printed, readers respond in droves “with nearly 1,400 five-star ratings and our mailboxes full of thanks.” And, by the way, Gabriella’s father is a noted Italian chef himself.
So Gabriella, there’s no need to cook for us, but we’re anxious to have you “cooking” on our Board.  Welcome!

MEMBERSHIP BADGES
I pass out membership badges at our luncheon meetings, lectures, and Meet & Greets.  I will have them at our Xiamen meeting on January 11.  If you’ve asked for a badge, I’ll be looking for you.
